Description
Stephen has in recent years built up a highly
successful photography business and won many awards. His working life
started in a quite different career. Since he has achieved an honours
degree in Design & Photography and an Associateship with the
British Institute of Professional Photographers.
For twenty years Stephen Drury travelled the world as personnel
assistant and stage manager to various artists in the music industry.
However, with the growing dislike for living out of a suitcase, Stephen
decided to pursue his love of photography by enrolling on a National
Diploma in photography at Harrogate School of Art.
After two years at Harrogate, Stephen continued his journey in education by gaining a place at the renowned Blackpool College,
a bastion of photographic education. He studied for a HND and BA(Hons)
Degree in Design and Photography. For his degree, Stephen specialised
in creating fine art black and white photographs. Taking most of his
inspiration from paintings rather than other photographers, and
observing how various artists have handled light and composition
through the ages, Stephen was inspired to build up a strong body of
work. This gained him not only his degree, but also earned him an
Associateship with the British Institute of Professional Photographers. Since then Stephen has settled back in his home town of York,
where his photography business has gone from strength the strength.
Since leaving college in '97 Stephen has won seven International Gold
Awards, and been named the BIPP Yorkshire Architectural Photographer of
the year. His pictures have also helped him achieve Yorkshire
Industrial Photographer of the year for breathtaking images which
possess a timeless quality.
Stephen is holding workshops, as well as giving talks and lectures
about his work and what inspires his photography. He will soon be
establishing a gallery in Albermarle Rd, York, from where he will be
selling his work. |
