Description
All Ways Spain is a small, personalised company, run by two partners and based in one of Spain’s most outstanding cities, Granada. James Hughes and Jonathan Lord bring to the Activity Weekends and all the company’s tours their varied perspectives and deep knowledge of Spain, a country that for all its prominence on the tourist map few visitors really get to know. Our holidays will give you an insight into Spain that few can rival, while introducing you to new skills, hobbies and interests that will last long beyond the trip itself. This is the course for you if you are looking to expand any area of your photographic expertise. No matter at what level you start, you will learn many useful techniques and see many new avenues to explore with your camera. Our tutors are all experienced professional photographers who live and work in the Granada area. David Aspinall has an extensive curriculum in photography and graphic design, and has taught for many years. Marcela Castro, from Argentina, and Johnnie Whitehead, from England, have both travelled and photographed widely, and have discovered in pinhole an art form which combines simplicity and beauty.
Granada provides infinite possibilities for gathering material, such as the centuries-old Albaicin district. Once the Moorish quarter, this maze of twisting streets offers everything a photographer could ask for, from innumerable period details to breathtaking views of the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada, all bathed in the incomparable light of Andalucia.
The workshop takes place at David’s farmhouse on the edges of a delightful village some 20 minutes' drive from Granada. The programme consists of photographic walks and workshop sessions on themes which will largely be tailored to your interests, and allows for plenty of time to ask questions, discuss ideas, and try out new techniques. The walks take us through beautiful scenery typical of rural Andalucia, a timeless landscape of olives, almonds and pines interspersed by small, sleepy white villages. Add in some rugged gorges, waterfalls, ruined Arab castles and diverse wildlife and a great portfolio is assured.
The walks are arranged around a leisurely lunch at a colourful local bar and are not designed to be too strenuous, requiring only a moderate degree of fitness. They will also appeal to non-photography partners, but alternative options can be arranged as part of a Freestyle Weekend, either in the village or in Granada.
