Direct to DVD camcorders benefit from Canon HD technology
United Kingdom, 09 January, 2007: Canon is pleased to announce the expansion of its range of direct-to-DVD camcorders, widening consumer choice with two new entry level models. The widescreen-ready Canon DVD Camcorder DC230 and DC201 benefit from a powerful optical zoom lens and DIGIC DV II, Canon’s most powerful video image processor originally designed for High Definition (HD) recording. A range of user-friendly features includes a Quick Start button and an intuitive menu system, easily navigated using a Joystick controller. Both camcorders offer additional digital stills functionality, recording to disc or, with the DC230, memory card. The DC230 also benefits from a Megapixel CCD. |
“The combination of powerful optical zoom lenses and DIGIC DV II takes our direct-to-DVD camcorders to the next level,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. “The significant investment we’ve made in High Definition over the past two years now yields rewards across our entry-level DVD range. These new models reinforce Canon’s position as a leading player in the consumer camcorder market.” Availability The DC201 will be available from mid March 2007. The DC230 will be available from early April 2007. The DC230 and DC201 feature:
Powerful zoom lens The DC230 brings to consumers the incredible precision of a Canon 35x optical zoom lens, setting a new benchmark at this level of the market. Users are free to zoom into even distant subjects without fear of compromising image quality. Unwanted vibrations, most noticeable at the upper-end of the zoom range, are reduced by an Electronic Image Stabilizer (EIS). A 1000x digital zoom is also available. Each camcorder is optimised for high resolution true widescreen recording. A wide 2.7” LCD and a 0.27” 16:9 colour EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) allow users to compose and play back footage in the same dimensions that will be displayed on a wide TV set. It is then a simple process to finalise the DVD in-camera before playing it back in a compatible home DVD player. Each camcorder can also be switched to standard 4:3 recording mode. One-handed shooting and Quick Start Designed for genuine one-handed shooting, controls are optimally positioned on the camcorder body. A Joystick at the back of the camcorder falls easily under the right thumb and is used for easy selection of a range of shooting features. A new addition for this season, both camcorders also feature Canon’s new Quick Start innovation. It can take most camcorders several seconds to be ready to record after being switched on. With Quick Start, however, a camcorder enters Record mode almost instantly. With one push of the dedicated Quick Start button, the camcorder rests in Standby mode, conserving battery power. With one more push of the button, the camcorder is ready to record in approximately one second. Quick Start allows users to capture events they might otherwise miss – a child’s first steps, for instance, or a match-winning goal. DIGIC DV II DIGIC DV II was first introduced with Canon’s flagship HD camcorder, the XL H1. Designed to handle the increased data rate of HD, this ultra-fast image processor is now found in camcorders across Canon’s range. DIGIC DV II features advanced noise reduction technology that results in sharper, higher quality images. It also provides true-to-life colours that appear vivid and vibrant on the screen. With split path processing, video and photo signals are handled separately, allowing optimal colour reproduction for each. For the DC230, DIGIC DV II also allows for simultaneous video recording and photo capture to memory card with no loss in quality. Greater recording capacity Compatibility with Dual Layer media (DVD-R DL) allows users to record more. Up to 108 minutes of video can be stored on a single disc, cutting down on the amount of times a shooting day has to be interrupted. DC200 Series The DC230 and DC201 offer consumers a wide range of choice. While both camcorders offer digital stills functionality, the DC230 allows users to store their photos to MiniSD memory cards. The DC230 also enjoys the additional imaging power of a Megapixel CCD. |
