EOS-1D Mark III Recall - 04/11/07

Our industry insiders report that in an embarassing turn of fate for Canon they have been forced to issue a UK wide recall on the EOS-1D Mark III that was launched in May. Canon issued the recall after a letter (penned by non other than Canon retail channel director Lee Bonniface) was discovered in circulation around the internet. In this letter he describes how Canon have discovered a major defect in some EOS-1D Mark III cameras that have already shipped to suppliers, and the letter goes on to discuss the recall by asking retailers to return any units that they still have unsold on their shelves.

The recall is only applicable to cameras with serial numbers between 501001 and 546561, if you check the serial number on your own Canon EOS-1D Mark III you should be able to discover if the recall applies to you. If your camera is affected Canon are currently offering completely free repairs of all units that exhibit this fault, however they are still not offering any replacement or refund options at the moment as a part of the recall. If the situation changes we will keep you updated.
