telephoto lenses explained
Telephoto Lenses are in the main used for making objects in the distance appear closer as if you were nearer the actual subject of your photo, although the photo effect is not exactly the same as if you were physically closer to the object as the perspective would be different due to the different distance/location.

A telephoto Lens has long focal lengths and a narrow angle of view, Telephoto lenses have a shallow depth of field which means they are great for capturing a subject and keeping the foreground and background objects out of focus.
Magnification of a telephoto lens also means that it is ideal for taking photographs of subjects further away, ideal if you cannot physically get close to your subject for example taking photographs of animals in their natural habitat without disturbing them, or a sporting event where the closest you can get to is the stands!!!!, with a decent Telephoto Lens you can achieve close up photography at a safe distance, Some telephoto lenses can take a photo of a subject that is barely viewable by the naked eye.
Problems with Telephoto lenses are their size and weight, using a decent tripod with a telephoto lens is a must as you would need a very steady hand to achieve a sharp clear photograph, the length of the telephoto lens means any slight movement of the camera will create a distorted photograph.
The biggest issue you will come across with a telephoto lens is the price they are not the cheapest lens to buy and it normally follows that the longer the focal length the more the price.
